What is Ransomware Task Force (RTF)

Ransomware Task Force (RTF)

To tackle ransomware, the FBI has released a comprehensive framework.

The Institute for Security and Technology (IST) has released a comprehensive framework to combat ransomware, in collaboration with a broad coalition of experts from industry, government, law enforcement, civil society, and international organisations who participated in the Ransomware Task Force (RTF).

On April 29th, 2021, the RTF held an online launch event featuring a stellar roster of specialists that guided the RTF process and keynote remarks from the Honorable Alejandro N. Mayorkas, United States Secretary of Homeland Security. Watch the videotape of the event and discover more about the full report in the sections below.

The Threat of Ransomware:

Ransomware is a common and damaging form of cybercrime that has become increasingly harmful in terms of its physical implications. Hospitals, school systems, local governments, public infrastructure, and a slew of other businesses have had their networks and data taken over by criminals looking for a quick buck.

Unless there is a coordinated, comprehensive, public-private response, ransomware assaults will continue to expand in size and severity.

Organization: RTF

Effectively combatting ransomware necessitates the focused, prioritised attention of specialists from both the private and public sectors. The Institute for Security and Technology (IST) was honoured to be invited to convene and collaborate with the Ransomware Task Force, a groundbreaking coalition and interdisciplinary group of leaders (RTF).\

This task force of over 60 members from software companies, government agencies, cybersecurity vendors, financial services companies, nonprofits, and academic institutions is working together on a comprehensive framework of actionable solutions. Their work synthesized best practices across sectors, identified solutions in all steps of the ransomware kill chain, targeted gaps in solution application, and engaged stakeholders across industries to coalesce around a diverse set of ideas and solutions.
